July 2008

President’s Message

“We invite you to grow your business!” said the postcard that arrived in July 2006. Look at that! A group called Women Entrepreneurs of Wisconsin (WE) was asking me to join them for their kick-off meeting. A rush of thoughts held me back. Would I know anyone? Would I be out of place? As I rattled off many reasons not to go, one thought kept nagging me. What would happen if I went?

What did happen was I met fascinating group of women focused on how to grow our businesses. Being an author/publisher is a solitary occupation, so joining a group helped me “get out more.” The first benefit was working in and displaying my book information in the WE booth at the Fox Cities Business Expo. (This year’s date is Tuesday, September 9, 2008.) Because I live outside the Fox Valley the WE booth gave me an “in” to the show that I would not had otherwise. I forced myself to walk the show and introduce myself to the other businesses. This turned into several sales and a great article in Marketplace Magazine.

Each meeting gives me something valuable, something I can use. What could be more invigorating than a group of women talking, laughing, solving business problems and celebrating success?

As your president I want to do my part to continue our mission to assist women businesses owners on their journey. WE creates a powerful environment for businesswomen. WE can help you and your business. Mark your calendars now for our monthly meetings and get ready to grow.
